From an interview with Faux Noose this morning:
"When he found out that I, you know, that there may be tapes out there, whether it's governmental tapes or anything else, and who knows, I think his story may have changed," Trump said. "You'll have to take a look at that, because then he has to tell what actually took place at the events... You'll have to determine for yourself whether or not his story changed."
"So it was a smart way to make sure he stayed honest in those hearings?" Fox News anchor Ainsley Earhardt followed up.
"Well, it wasn't very stupid, I can tell you that. He was -- he did admit that what I said was right. And if you look further back, before he heard about that, I think maybe he wasn't admitting that," Trump said without specifying to which of Comey's past statements he was alluding. "So you'll have to do a little investigative reporting to determine that. But I don't think it will be that hard."
There it is, in plain, unambiguous words. James Comey told the truth because Dear Leader forced him to with the threat of tape recordings of their conversations.
I have this mental image of Special Counsel Robert Mueller arriving at his office, sitting down behind his desk, taking a sip of coffee and reading the transcript of this interview. I suspect he might chuckle a bit.
That chuckle might turn into a belly laugh when he gets to this bit:
“Robert Mueller is an honorable man and hopefully he’ll come up with an honorable conclusion,” Trump said, though he noted that Mueller and Comey were “very, very good friends” and also criticized the makeup of Mueller’s growing team of attorneys involved in the investigation.
“I can say that the people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters, some of them worked for Hillary Clinton,” Trump said. “I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous if you want to know the truth.”
Orange Julius obviously doesn’t realize that he’s managed to get himself caught in a bear trap and that he’s desperately trying to gnaw his leg off with statements like this.
The investigation is now solidly established and is beyond Drumpf’s ability to shut down, especially by getting Mueller fired. Yes, he could order Deputy AG Rosenstein to fire Mueller and kill the investigation, but Rosenstein would resign, leaving it in the hands of Assistant AG Brand. There’s no telling what Brand would do, but the political fallout of this modern version of Nixon’s ‘Saturday Night Massacre’ would turn even Republicans against him. That path does not turn out well for Dear Leader.
This leads us back to the question of why our Pr*sident trying so damn hard to shut down the investigation into Russian meddling in our election. Lots of people are pointing to the likelihood of collusion, but I have a different idea.
We know the Russians intended to interfere in our 2016 presidential election.
We know the Russians hacked the DNC and John Podesta’s e-mails.
We know the Russians planted lots of fake news.
We know our voting machine software and voter registration systems are notoriously insecure.
We know the Russians put a lot of time, money and effort into affecting our election.
We know the Russians wanted Drumpf to win.
We know that Drumpf won by small margins in 3 states — Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
Why are we so damn sure that in spite of all this, the Russians for some reason decided to not even try to hack the registration and voting systems?
I suspect our Dear Leader is scared stiff that looking deep enough will reveal that he truly is an illegitimate president.
Cheers.
