I just watched CNN replay the snippet from their Paul Ryan ‘Town Hall’last night, in which a Dreamer asks Speaker of the (Republicans in the) House Paul Ryan if he wants her deported. His response:
"I can see that you love your daughter and you're a nice person who has a great future ahead of you, and I hope your future's here,"
When pressed about what our soon-to-be Dear Leader is going to do, Ryan talked about the wall and deporting violent illegals:
"That's the problem he wants to focus on. This is not the focus. And so what we have to do is find a way to ensure that you can get right with the law," he said. "We have to figure out how to fix this, but to do that, people need to have confidence that our laws are being followed, people know who's coming and going and we need to have a secure border."
Pressed again about our wanna-be Maximum Leader for Life’s threat of a deportation force:
Ryan responded that though some fear a deportation force, "it's not happening."Tapper responded that Trump had actually talked of creating a "deportation force" on the campaign trail."I know, I know," Ryan said, laughing. "But I'm here to tell you, in Congress, it's not happening."
Let me stop right there and interject a few actual facts into Paul Ryan’s sad-faced phony-sympathy drivel.
- There is a database, kept by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), of over 800,000 Dreamers. It includes all of their personal information, including location, family members, etc.
- There is already a ‘deportation force’— it’s called Immigration and Customs Security (ICE), it’s 20,000 strong, and it’s already tasked with the job. This division within ICE will, however, have to be re-named…. it is now called the ‘Removal Division’. (It really is!)
- ICE reports to the Secretary of Homeland Security, who in turn reports to the president.
- DACA, the Dreamer program, was established by President Obama through an Executive Order (because Congress refused to lift a finger on immigration reform), and can be cancelled by the incoming president acting alone.
Once DACA has been cancelled, the Dreamers go back to being just like any other undocumented immigrant, with one exception:
Their identity, immigration status, employment and, most importantly, location is known to ICE.
This group, the Dreamers, would become ‘low-hanging fruit’, because they would be so easy to capture and deport.
And there’s absolutely nothing that Speaker Paul Ryan could do about it if our bloviator-in-chief decided to grab and deport these people…. other than to try to pass a bill that would prevent him from doing it…. which many Republicans would oppose, because they like deporting brown people…. and which, if passed, would be promptly vetoed by President* Trump…. and even if the Democrats decided to bail out the Repuglicans, a whole lot of Dreamers would be sent back to countries they know nothing about.
So once again we get Paul Ryan, all somber and sad-puppy-eyed, head tilted in a carefully-calculated show of concerned, seemingly ready to cry….. while lying through his perfectly capped teeth.
Please note that I’m not predicting Drumpf will actually decide to deport the Dreamers. I don’t think he’ll have the balls to do it, and I think he’d get a lot of push-back from General Kelly, the incoming DHS Secretary. My point is that Paul Ryan is so full of shit he can’t stop it from leaking out just about every time he opens his mouth.
I’m not sure whether we should call this condition Trumpitis…. or Trumposis, but it’s catching.
Cheers.
*No, that wasn’t an asterisk denoting a foot-note, that was an asterisk that means the same as the asterisk after names like Barry Bonds*, Mark McGuire*, Sammy Sosa*, etc.
