I was just watching (badly failing) CNN, where the panel was discussing our wanna-be Dear Leader’s upcoming ‘how to destroy ISIS without really trying hard’ speech this afternoon. Carol Costello put up a graphic that showed some information released by the Trump campaign about the spew...err… speech. I didn’t get a screen grab, but here’s the same points from an AP story:
Trump is also expected to propose creating a new, ideological test for admission to the country that would assess a candidate's stances on issues like religious freedom, gender equality and gay rights. Through questionnaires, searching social media, interviewing friends and family or other means, applicants would be vetted to see whether they support American values like tolerance and pluralism. (Emphasis added)
Without comment, here are some excerpts from the official RNC Republican Platform for 2016, as passed by the delegates to the Republican convention:
Traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and instilling cultural values.
…….
We support the right of the people to conduct their businesses in accordance with their religious beliefs and condemn public officials who have proposed boycotts against businesses that support traditional marriage.
…….
Foremost among those institutions is the American family. It is the foundation of civil society, and the cornerstone of the family is natural marriage, the union of one man and one woman. Its daily lessons — cooperation, patience, mutual respect, responsibility, self-reliance — are fundamental to the order and progress of our Republic. Strong families, depending upon God and one another, advance the cause of liberty by lessening the need for government in their daily lives.
…….
We oppose government discrimination against businesses or entities which decline to sell items or services to individuals for activities that go against their religious views about such activities.
Oh, wait, I didn’t include what the Republican Platform says about gender equality:
And, of course, about LGBTQ rights:
I guess this means that if Trump gets elected, the next time Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions goes overseas for a ‘fact-finding’ junket, he’s going to have a hard time getting back in the US.
This is a developing issue, and I’m sure we’ll hear more about it in our incipient Maximum Leader for Life’s stilted droning speech this afternoon…. or maybe he’ll just rant about how unfair the press is to him.
Cheers.
